There has been a major breakthrough in the search for missing Australian campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay, with a pilot arrested

Australian police have arrested a 55-year-old man over the disappearance of two campers from a national park 20 months ago.

The Jetstar pilot from Melbourne is being questioned by police but has not been charged.

The man is being interviewed by authorities after special operations officers flew to the High Plains area, part of the Victorian Alps, in helicopters yesterday and arrested him at a campsite near Moroka Road, Arbuckle Junction.

No charges have been laid against the Jetstar pilot, but police will allege his car is the dark blue Nissan Patrol that police have been searching for as part of their investigation.

Jetstar has confirmed the pilot had been stood down

In a statement, the airline said: “Jetstar has been advised by Victoria Police that one of its employees is under investigation for a serious crime and will work to assist in this due process any way we can,”

“As a matter of course, the employee has been removed from duty as a result of their arrest.”

Detectives have alleged the man has changed the colour of his car to avoid being found by police.
