A New York judge has officially exonerated two men who were found guilty of assassinating Malcolm X

The individuals were convicted of the crime back in 1965 with US authorities admitting to a historic miscarriage of justice.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance addressed the court to make the announcement

One of the men, Aziz was sentenced to life in prison in 1966 but was released in 1985 meanwhile, the other man, also received life imprisonment, was released in 1987 and died in 2009.

The move to exonerate the individuals follows a 22-month review conducted by defence lawyers and Manhattan prosecutors with the conclusion that the men were in fact wrongfully convicted.

It also follows the release of a six-part documentary on Netflix, “Who Killed Malcolm X?,” that held the two men were innocent.
