WHO winter warning – Denmark considers closing

Published

on

Following two months of zero Covid-19 restrictions, Copenhagen is one of a number of European nations considering the reintroduction of certain rules to curb the Delta variant’s spread

Denmark has previously declared that Covid is “no longer an illness which is a critical threat to society”, but is now battling a surge in new infections.

Danes have been living a life of normalcy for quite some time, meaning the re-introduction of restrictions may be tough to impose.

Nightclubs, concert venues and other hospitality establishments have reopened to large crowd numbers and masks are not currently mandated.

This all comes as the World Health Organisation warns that more than half a million Europeans could die of Covid-19 over winter.

On Monday, the Danish government proposed reintroducing a digital “corona pass” to prove vaccination status, which will be required for entry into many of the country’s venues if passed by parliament.

European nations are now also increasingly turning their attention to booster shots in an attempt to halt the spread of Covid over the next critical winter months.
