Signs of a government restructure in Hong Kong?

Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam has hinted at the possibility of a governmental shake-up as the end of her term as leader approaches

Lam was speaking at a public consultation session when she made the remarks, saying it’s time to think about implementing some “drastic changes”.

Lam believes there is consensus amongst her peers to increase housing and land policies and enhance Hong Kong’s cultural development.

It comes as China’s top official in the city-state calls for urgent reforms to the housing market… adding that problems with the market would “greatly improve” by 2049.

Housing shortages caused by the lack of available land and subsequent rising house prices has been an issue for the region for over two decades.  

Meanwhile, Lam’s reign as ruler of Hong Kong will officially expire by mid-2022, and she says she will avoid any large spending as the city-state recovers from the economic consequences of the pandemic.
