Two tourists die from electrocution in Bengaluru hotel pool, two others injured during rescue attempts
An American tourist and a lifeguard were injured while attempting to rescue the pair from the electrically charged water.
The incident happened around 6.30 pm at a five-star hotel in Halasuru.
Electrically charged
Police reported that the pool water became electrically charged due to a suspected fault in the electrical system.
Both injured individuals, tourist Mathew DeSantis, 41, and lifeguard Rahul Tiwari, 28, were taken to Manipal Hospital and are currently stable.
The incident has raised serious concerns regarding electrical safety and maintenance protocols at the hotel.
A negligence case has been filed against the hotel management by Horvath’s wife following the tragedy.
Preliminary inspections by the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) suggested issues with the earthing system or electrical installation.
Investigators are assessing the electrical infrastructure of the pool to ascertain the cause of electrification.
They are also examining the hotel’s maintenance procedures and safety measures in place during the incident.
Police are in the process of gathering information on the events leading up to the incident and the rescue attempts made.
Further investigation continues as authorities seek to determine responsibility for the deaths.
