Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro has left for the U.S. after losing the presidential election and disregarding a court order to surrender his passports, according to sources. The U.S. Embassy in Brazil and Bolsonaro’s lawyer have not commented on the situation.

His current location is unknown, but a source indicated Flavio arrived in the United States, though they did not reveal where.

The Trump administration reportedly granted asylum to Flavio and his family amid claims of judicial persecution against his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro.

Bolsonaro’s departure

Flavio’s exit may strain relations between Brazil and the U.S., as President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has accused Washington of supporting the Bolsonaro family.

Jair Bolsonaro previously fled to the U.S. after refusing to concede in the 2022 election and was later sentenced for plotting a coup.

Trump did not mention Flavio’s departure but described the Brazilian election as “rigged.”

Lula’s office has not responded to requests for comments regarding this issue.

Flavio was expected to win the election but lost to Lula in an unexpected outcome.

He had 24 hours to submit his passports as part of a money laundering investigation, which he has denied.

Brazil’s Minister of Institutional Relations commented on reports of Flavio’s departure, questioning his readiness to govern.

Flavio Bolsonaro has not officially conceded defeat but his party acknowledged Lula’s victory.

The circumstances allowing Flavio to leave the country under a passport deadline remain unclear.

His brother, Eduardo Bolsonaro, indicated that a loss would warrant a move to the U.S.
