Is Netflix’s live-action Pokémon series a step closer to gaming?

We might not have seen the last of ‘Detective Pikachu’

Netflix is reportedly in early development on a live-action Pokémon TV series, according to Variety.

According to its story, the in-development Pokémon series will be a live-action project similar to the 2019 film Detective Pikachu.

It’s still early days for Netflix’s live-action Pokémon series, which hasn’t officially been announced by the streaming giant.

Detective Pikachu was a huge success raking in $583 million worldwide

For Netflix, a Pokémon show is just another step toward what it sees as its partially game-driven future. The company already has a hit with The Witcher and arguably another with Castlevania, and it has Resident Evil and Tomb Raider shows in the works.

A Pokémon show could continue a relationship with Nintendo it was already reported to be cultivating. As early as 2015, it was rumored that Nintendo and Netflix were developing a live-action Legend of Zelda series, which was reportedly canceled due to leaks.

Netflix is making its first major move beyond TV shows and films, with an expansion into video games

The popular streamer has hired a former Electronic Arts and Facebook exec to lead the push.

Mike Verdu will join Netflix under its new game development unit.

Previously he had been helping Facebook to bring game developers to that platform.

There’s no further details as yet as to how Netflix plans to roll out the gaming platform to customers.
