Then there were three – Trump, DeSantis and Haley

Published

Suffering from the defeat at the hands of former President Donald Trump in Iowa, Republican candidates vying to challenge Trump for the party’s presidential nomination turn their attention to New Hampshire.

Despite facing a multitude of criminal and civil cases, Trump emerged the winner in Iowa, marking a historic triumph over his rivals.

The 77-year-old former president appeared in a New York court to defend himself against defamation charges brought by writer E. Jean Carroll, who accused him of sexual assault decades ago.

With more than half of Iowa voters supporting Trump, the stage is set for a potentially fierce rematch between Trump and Democratic President Joe Biden, 81, in the upcoming November presidential election.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis secured second place in Iowa, trailing far behind Trump, while former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, 51, landed in third.

Notably, Trump has declined to participate in debates with his Republican rivals, prompting Haley to announce that she would only engage in future debates if Trump were present.

Two such debates are scheduled ahead of New Hampshire’s primary contest on January 23.
