“Poverty and desperation” – Dozens of migrants found dead in Texas lorry

Published

on

“Poverty and desperation” were the words used by Mexico’s president when he described the events that led to the deaths of at least 50 migrants

The individuals were found abandoned in a Texas lorry, in what is the worst case of migrant deaths due to smuggling in U.S. history.

Survivors were “hot to the touch” and suffering from heat stroke and heat exhaustion.

Three people have been taken into custody after more than 40 bodies of migrants have been found dead in a truck in Texas.

Who are the dozens of dead people found inside a truck in Texas?

Sixteen people who were found alive, including 12 adults and four children, are now recovering in hospital.

Mexico’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard confirmed two of the survivors were from Guatemala.

The truck was found next to railway tracks in a remote area of San Antonio.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said a worker nearby heard a cry for help around 5pm Texas time and went to investigate.

“(They) found a trailer with the doors partially open and opened them up to take a look and found a number of deceased individuals inside,” McManus said.

Hood said a body was found outside the truck and the remainder were found inside the trailer.
