Iraqi officials have taken the unprecedented step of ordering the immediate shutdown of all electronic advertising screens across Baghdad following an incident where a hacker infiltrated one such screen to broadcast explicit adult content.

The incident occurred at a prominent road junction in the Iraqi capital and the explicit video quickly spread through social media channels.

According to the local police, a suspect has been apprehended in connection with the incident.

The individual is reported to be a technician who had been experiencing financial disputes with the company responsible for managing the electronic advertising screens. The authorities believe that the hacker’s actions were retaliatory in nature.

A security source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that the hacker had managed to display explicit material for several minutes before the power cable was disconnected on Saturday.

The event, described as showcasing “immoral scenes,” has led to the immediate cessation of all electronic advertising screens throughout Baghdad. Authorities have cited security concerns as the primary reason for this abrupt measure.

Electronic advertising screens in the city, typically employed for promoting various products or political messages, were powered down early on Sunday morning. Iraqi officials have also expressed the need to reassess and enhance security measures around these screens to prevent any future unauthorized access and inappropriate content from being displayed.
