Lewis Hamilton wants Formula One to take action over fans being harassed at the Austrian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton says there was “disgusting” behaviour at the weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix, which saw catcalling from fans, and inappropriate touching.

Formula 1 is condemning the sexist behaviour and is increasing its security in response to the behaviour.

It follows reports about misogyny towards female fans, with some spectators saying they felt scared.

Others heard homophobic slurs and the use of the N-word.

“Attending the Austrian Grand Prix or any GP should never be a source of anxiety and pain for fans and something must be done to ensure that races are safe spaces for all.”

Charles Leclerc took out the race, Max Verstappen came in second, and Hamilton rounded out the podium. The win is Leclerc’s first victory when he has not started from pole position.

It pushes the 24-year-old into second place in the driver’s championship.

Meanwhile, Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz were unable to finish the race.
