George Floyd’s family meets with President Biden, one year on

George Floyd was killed by police officer Derek Chauvin one year ago today

Nations worldwide are holding events to commemorate the life of George Floyd on the one-year anniversary of his death.

Today, members of Floyd’s family met with President Joe Biden, who says they’ve shown “extraordinary courage” over the past year.

The family acknowledged that being at the White House is an honour, saying their conversation with the President was “very productive conversation.”

At the conclusion, George Floyd’s brother says “if you can protect the Bald Eagle, you can protect black lives”

However, George Floyd’s sister, Bridgett skipped the meeting and attended a Minneapolis rally instead. She says she’s disappointed that Biden is yet to pass the Justice in Policing Act through Congress.

This legislation was supposed to be finalised by today.

Meanwhile, former US President Barack Obama took to Twitter to give his thoughts on the day.

He says since Floyd’s murder, “hundreds more Americans have died in encounters with police. Parents, sons, daughters, friends taken from us far too soon,”

Obama wrote; “the last year has also given us reasons to hope. Today, more people in more places are seeing the world more clearly than they did a year ago”.
