EU reaches vaccination target – what now?

Published

on

The European Union has officially reached its initial Covid-19 vaccination target, with 70 percent of eligible adults now fully vaccinated against the virus

The European Union Commission President says this achievement means more than 250 million people have now rolled up their sleeves – however, she warns that citizens “must remain vigilant”.

It comes as the E-U calls on more Europeans to get vaccinated quickly to “avoid a new wave of infections and to stop the emergence of new variants”.

However, behind this high average are smaller nations like Bulgaria lagging the chain, with just one in five eligible Bulgarians currently fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the Eiffel Tower and other tourist landmarks in France will now require visitors to show a Covid-19 vaccine pass, with other countries expected to follow suit.

The Commission has also pledged to help developing nations to reach vaccination targets, saying this pandemic will only end if it is defeated in every corner of the globe.
