A United States doctor has been sentenced to prison for using knock-off drugs in patients to buy a mansion
Dr. Abdul Naushad and his wife were found guilty of conspiracy and one count of health care fraud.
The drug in question is called Orthovisc, which is approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
The doctor reportedly imported a cheaper version of the drug from overseas, without federal approval.
The pair then bought a “castle-like” mansion with the difference pocketed from using the cheaper drugs in patients.
The 58-year-old doctor has been sentenced to a year in prison, while his wife was granted three years probation.
