Black Death origins traced back to central Asia

New research has revealed the origins of the Black Death that killed tens of million of people in northern parts of the world

The plague is one of the biggest epidemics that continues to baffle scientists 600 years later.

New analysis predicts that the disease originated in central Asia in Kyrgyzstan in the early 13 hundreds.

Researchers analysed DNA from the teeth of seven skeletons in cemeteries near a large lake in the East of the country.

The area had a large number of burials between 1338 and 1339.

Teeth contain many blood vessels, which increases the chance of scientists detecting “blood-borne pathogens that may have caused the deaths of the individuals”.

The plague bacteria was found in three of the skeletons studied.
