Airspace closed? Algeria closes airspace to Moroccan planes

Algeria has announced the closure of the country’s airspace to all Moroccan planes

The move is the latest in an ongoing dispute between the two neighbours at odds, mainly over Western Sahara.

The move was announced after a meeting of the High Security Council.

A statement reads “all civilian and military aircraft as well as to those registered in Morocco” are banned.

The decision comes “in view of the continued provocations and hostile practices on the Moroccan side”.

There has been no immediate reaction by Moroccan authorities but Royal Air Maroc says the move would affect 15 flights weekly linking Morocco with Tunisia, Turkey and Egypt.
