U.S. embassy officials have met with detained WNBA star Brittney Griner

U.S. embassy officials have met with detained WNBA star Brittney Griner, marking the first visit in months.

The White House says “she’s doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances.”

They added “the U.S. government made a significant offer to the Russians to resolve the unacceptable and wrongful” detention.

It comes as the U.S. government continues to strive for her release, saying its their ‘top priority.’

Griner was arrested at a Moscow airport for allegedly bringing cannabis oil into the country and has been sentenced to nine years behind bars.

The basketball start is now living in bleak conditions in penal colony.

It follows a member of the Pussy Riot, Maria Alyokhina, speaking to Reuters about the conditions in the prison.

Alyokhina would know because she spent two years there as an inmate.

She says the conditions include tedious manual work, poor hygiene and lack of access to medical care.
