Finally, Adnan Syed is able to live as a free man after all charges against him are dropped

Adnan Syed is innocent and lost 23 years of his life serving time for a crime he did not commit.

The case garnered worldwide attention after the hit true crime podcast, Serial, featured it.

Syed was convicted of the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee, but his conviction was quashed last month.

On Tuesday, it was announced that all charges had been dropped by U.S. prosecutors.

His layer says in a statement that he client “has always maintained his innocence” and they are “thrilled that justice has finally been served.”

Baltimore State Attorney has apologised to the families of victim and the now-exonerated Syed.

The charges were dropped after DNA testing was conducted on Lee’s clothes for the first time, which uncovered multiple DNA samples, none of which belonged to Syed.

He is now a free man, and his lawyers are working on getting him some sort of compensation for the 23 years he spent in prison.
