After a 9 month chase across Europe, a former beauty queen has been arrested for the theft of prestige wine

A former Mexican beauty queen and her accomplice have been arrested over the theft of $1.7 million worth of wine.

The pair were arrested in Croatia, after police found 45 bottles of wine, worth a total of 1.65 million euros. Their haul also included one “unique” 19th-century vintage.

Authorities had been trying to hunt them down for 9 months.

It’s understood the 29-year-old woman was distracting hotel staff, while her partner ran down to the wine cellar and filled three backpacks worth of expensive bottles.

The pair allegedly stole the key to the cellar on a previous visit, and wrapped the wine in their hotel room for protection.

The wine has not been found but investigations continue into the matter.
