UK’s Keir is in the clear

UK police have cleared Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer of breaking any lockdown laws

It follows a formal inquiry into an event held at a Labour M-P’s office back in April 2021.

Starmer’s deputy, Angela Rayner has also been cleared of any wrongdoing.

The opposition leader has long said he would resign if he had been fined as a matter of principle, positioning himself as a man of integrity against former PM Boris Johnson.

In a statement, police say there is “no case to answer”, and say the pair were exempt from lockdown rules due to “reasonably necessary work”.

In the wake of Johnson’s resignation, Starmer says Labour has “a plan for the country” and the party will set this out in the coming days.
