Louisiana Judge blocks ‘trigger law’ banning abortion

Published

on

A Louisiana judge has blocked the state’s abortion ‘trigger law’ which bans the medical procedure at any stage of pregnancy

The decision comes just days after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the longstanding decision of Roe v Wade.

Louisiana is one of 13 states that has immediately moved to reinstate a ban on abortions.

But, on Monday, a judge temporarily blocked the enforcement of the law, setting a hearing for July 8.

As it stands, Louisiana’s controversial law makes no exceptions in cases of rape or incest.

The state’s three abortion clinics say they will continue providing abortion care to patients following this initial ruling.

Similar lawsuits have also been filed in Utah and Ohio, all in an attempt to stop trigger bans from coming into effect following the overturning of Roe.
