Published

on

As gun violence right across the United States soars to deadly levels, the man accused of killing 10 people in a Buffalo supermarket has pleaded not guilty on all counts.

The white supremacist, Payton Gendron appeared in court for his arraignment hearing, with the judge ruling the 18-year-old will remain in custody.

Due back in court on July 7, Gendron has been charged with 25 counts as a result of the mass shooting incident.

Authorities believe the individual went into the supermarket with an intent to kill Black people, in what is being described as a racially-motivated attack.

It comes as President Joe Biden prepares to deliver a rare primetime address, outlining how his administration plans to tackle gun violence.

The speech follows a number of high-profile and tragic mass shootings in recent weeks, In New York state, an elementary school in Texas and a medical building in Oklahoma.

While gun advocates are pushing Biden to curb gun violence, the President is shifting the responsibility to Congress, with the White House pushing for the introduction of impactful gun laws.

The U-S House of Representatives committee is working on a bill aimed at toughening national gun laws, but it has little chance of passing through the Senate.
