One of Australia’s most popular tourist destinations is underwater as the nation’s east coast is battered by wild weather

Byron Bay in New South Wales has been inundated by flooding, with residents sharing dramatic footage online.

In the city of Lismore, the Wilsons River is also continuing to rise and a 55-year-old woman is missing.

20 evacuation orders were issued by authorities overnight and over 50 flood rescues were conducted in a period of just 24 hours.

The state’s acting premier warns the region could face more devastation over the next few days.
