America is more diverse and multicultural than ever

Published

America’s latest Census data has found that the nation is more diverse and more multicultural than ever before

The US Census Bureau says “our analysis of the 2020 data shows that the population “is much more multiracial, and more racially and ethnically diverse than what was measured in the past”.

Non-Hispanic, White Americans remain as the most prevalent in each state, except for California, Hawaii and New Mexico, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

This is most significant for California, where the Hispanic and Latino population became the largest group in the state for the first time ever – accounting for around 39 per cent of the population.

This year’s Census was different from previous years – with a focus on more detailed questions about race and identity.

The Census Bureau says these changes “enables a more thorough and accurate depiction of how people self identify.”
