Netflix enlists Donald Glover to adapt PUBG into a live-action series with him as writer, director, and star
Netflix is bringing one of gaming’s biggest franchises to the screen, partnering with Donald Glover to develop a live action adaptation of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).
Glover is set to write, direct and star in the series, working alongside his brother, Stephen Glover, on the script.
He will also serve as an executive producer, bringing his creative vision to a franchise that has built a massive global following.
The production will involve Michael Schaefer of Neon TV, alongside members of Krafton’s entertainment division, as the company expands its presence beyond gaming.
Released in 2017, PUBG became a global gaming phenomenon through its battle royale format, dropping players onto an island where they compete to be the last person standing.
Unlike many video game franchises, it has no traditional storyline, leaving considerable creative freedom for the television adaptation.

Netflix has yet to reveal plot details, with questions remaining over how the series will translate the game’s open-ended gameplay into a compelling television narrative.
Glover brings considerable experience to the project.
He co-created the acclaimed comedy drama Atlanta with his brother Stephen, with the pair also collaborating on projects including Swarm and Guava Island.
His acting credits include Community, 30 Rock, The Martian and Solo: A Star Wars Story, while his work across television, film and music has established him as a distinctive creative force.
The PUBG adaptation marks another major crossover between gaming and streaming, as entertainment companies continue to turn established video game franchises into television and film properties.
