Trump says he’s “very honoured” by DeSantis endoursement

Published

Former President Donald Trump has conveyed his deep sense of honor after receiving the endorsement of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Trump stated that he looks forward to joining forces with him to defeat President Joe Biden.

DeSantis recently announced the suspension of his 2024 presidential campaign, throwing his support behind Trump.

Trump, responding to the endorsement, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am very honored to have his endorsement. I look forward to working together with him to beat Joe Biden, who is the worst and most corrupt president in the history of our country.”

DeSantis withdraws

The Florida governor officially revealed his decision to withdraw from the presidential race in a video posted on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on Sunday afternoon.

In his announcement, DeSantis explained his choice, stating, “It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance.

“They watched his presidency get stymied by relentless resistance, and they see Democrats using lawfare to this day to attack him.

“While I have had disagreements with Donald Trump, such as on the coronavirus pandemic and his elevation of Anthony Fauci, Trump is superior to the current incumbent, Joe Biden. That is clear.”

Not the way forward

DeSantis emphasised that he endorsed Trump because he believes returning to the old Republican establishment is not the way forward. He criticized it as a “repackaged form of warmed-over corporatism,” particularly pointing out Nikki Haley as a representative of this approach.

Trump’s victory in the Iowa Caucuses last Monday solidified his frontrunner status, with a significant lead in New Hampshire ahead of Nikki Haley.
