23-time major champion Serena Williams has just confirmed she will be returning to Wimbledon to play in this month’s tournament

To her advantage, Williams was handed a wild card entry to compete in the ladies’ singles.

Williams posted to social media to confirm the news with a post of her standing on the iconic grass court.

“SW and SW19, It’s a date. 2022, see you there.”

The American has already claimed seven title wins at Wimbledon, and now her chances of securing another are on the horizon.

Wimbledon is scheduled for June 27 to July 10, at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.

Fans are surprised by the news though with many not expecting her on the court anytime soon following a serious injury that saw her out for months.

Firstly, Williams will appear in Eastbourne next week for the LTA’s Rothesay International doubles event.

She will pair up with Tunisia’s world No. 4 Ons Jabeur, which will be her first appearance in nearly a year.
