Published

on

The Taliban have officially unveiled a new hardline government for Afghanistan in a press conference in Kabul

One of the Taliban’s long-time members and former leader of the militant group’s Council, Hassan Akhund has been selected as Prime Minister.

This individual is reportedly respected by his peers for his religious beliefs and movements rather than his military capacity.

The deputy leader will be the former head of the Taliban’s political bureau, and a key player in previous peace talks in Qatar.

Meanwhile, two individuals who have been sanctioned by the U-S and remain as senior figures in the Haqqani Network will also feature on the leadership panel.

This network is known to be a terror group that is closely aligned with both the Taliban and Al Qaeda

The formation of government comes just weeks after the militant group took control of Afghanistan.

In the press conference, the Taliban’s spokesperson says “our government won’t be based on ethnicity, we will not allow this type of politics”.

Currently, there are no women in the government’s ministry, with the Taliban yet to address the issue.

However, a higher degree of workers began reporting post-Covid burnout, as they made a return to the office.

“There’s been a blurring of the lines. You have work that’s not confined by a physical space.
