Spain’s new sex ban

Spain’s Prime Minister has pledged to outlaw prostitution, saying the industry “enslaves” women

Prostitution was decriminalised in Spain in the 90s, and studies estimate that the industry is worth 3.7 billion euros.

Meanwhile, a 2009 survey says that at least 1 in 3 Spanish men have paid for sex, and this figure may be as high as 39 percent.

Spain is considered the third biggest centre for prostitution in the world, following Thailand and Puerto Rico.

The industry hit new highs following its decriminalisation, and during Spain’s 2019 election, the PM pledged to outlaw prostitution in a bid to attract more women.
