North Korea has fired a short-range missile towards the sea off its east coast.
The test happened as North Korea’s ambassador says no-one could deny Pyongyang’s right to self-defence and to test weapons at the UN
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of staff provided no further details, but Japan’s defence ministry speculates the launch was a ballistic missile.
South Korea’s President Moon Jae-In expressed the need for a peace treaty between the two countries to officially mark the end to the Korean War.
North Korea has also expressed willingness to engage in talks with the South.
The U-S military said in a statement that it was aware of the missile launch but that it posed no immediate threat to US personnel or its allies.
Beirut protest – at least six people dead
Gunfire erupted into the crowd that was protesting against the judge leading the probe into the Beirut port blast
A protest in the Lebanese capital of Beirut has resulted in chaos.
Two Shia muslim groups were protesting against the judge investigating last year’s port blast.
Allegedly, gunfire broke out from Christian snipers of the Lebanese Forces, killing at least six people and injuring 32 others.
The inquiry into the explosion that killed 219 people has been a source of huge tension within the country.
The protestors believe the judge to be biased as no one has yet been held accountable for the 2020 disaster.
Lebanon President addressed the demonstrators, saying they “will not allow anyone to take the country hostage to their own interests”.
U.S opens borders to vaccinated travellers from Mexico, Canada
The US is opening its borders to Canada and Mexico for vaccinated travellers
The U.S will lift restrictions at its land borders with Canada and Mexico for fully vaccinated foreign nationals in early November.
The announcement ends historic curbs on non-essential travelers, put in place since March 2020 to address the COVID-19 pandemic.
The border closure will lift in November after a 19 month ban that was enforced at the beginning of the pandemic.
Unvaccinated travellers are excluded from this change and will be unable to cross the borders with Mexico or Canada.
Senator Chuck Schumer says US President Joe Biden has done “the right thing” by opening up the border, and allowing families to re-unite.
U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement the administration next month “will begin allowing travelers from Mexico and Canada who are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 to enter the United States for non-essential purposes, including to visit friends and family or for tourism, via land and ferry border crossings.”
The new rules are similar but not identical to planned requirements announced last month for international air travellers.
India to welcome tourists as COVID cases settle
Country’s government announces a return to tourist visas for international visitors
India is set to re-open to tourists after being closed for more than a year due to the pandemic.
The country had barred all foreign tourists in March 2020, following a strict lockdown when the pandemic first began.
The nation experienced a large spike in Covid-19 cases earlier this year, prompting stricter measures to curb the number of infections.
But the number of cases has fallen sharply in recent months.
It comes as the Government remains under pressure from industry groups that rely on foreign tourists.
Tourist visas will be granted for foreigners arriving on charter flights from October 15, and on other flights from November 15.
