Joe Biden has touched down in Belfast to begin an historic four-day visit across Northern Ireland and the Republic.

Stepping off Air Force One, Biden was greeted by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

His visit marks the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement – a peace deal which helped to end 30 years of violent conflict in Northern Ireland.

The White House commended the “tremendous progress” since the pact was signed.

But the visit is being overshadowed by failures within Northern Ireland’s power-sharing government.

It collapsed last year when the Democratic Unionist Party pulled over post-Brexit trade rules for the region.
