EU slams Hungary’s anti-LGBT law as a ‘disgrace’

The European Union has voted to engage in urgent legal action over Hungary’s new sweeping laws that prohibit the sharing of homosexual content to under 18 year-olds

The European Parliament says the new legislation breaches “EU values, principles and law”… and this is “another intentional and premeditated example of the gradual dismantling of fundamental rights in Hungary”.

It comes as Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban says this latest policy is a discussion for his country’s leaders and not “Brussels bureaucrats”.

The European Union voted 459 to 147 in favour of addressing the latest developments in Hungary, with 58 member nations abstaining.

It is possible that the European Commission will respond to Hungary’s new laws by reducing budget allocations to the country – a new tool that may force Hungary to reverse the laws.

The President of the EU Commission says “the legislation uses the protection of children as an excuse to discriminate against people because of their sexual orientation” and labelling it a “disgrace”.

But Hungary’s PM hit back, saying “whatever they do… we will not allow LGBT activists into our children’s kindergartens and schools”.
