Derek Chauvin requests retrial

Former police officer, Derek Chauvin has pleaded guilty to his latest round of charges, this time for violating George Floyd’s civil rights

Chauvin is currently serving a state sentence of more than 22 years for murdering Floyd.

The disgraced ex-cop had originally pleaded not guilty to the charges, but has reversed the plea after reaching a deal with US prosecutors.

The agreement will see Chauvin not face trial in January and may also result in him receiving a lighter federal sentence.

Chauvin was convicted by the state of Minnesota for both murder and manslaughter back in January.

He killed Floyd by kneeling on his neck for more than nine minutes… and failed to provide appropriate medical care during Floyd’s arrest.

The incident sparked global outrage after a bystander’s video footage of Chauvin leaning on Floyd went viral right around the world, sparking a wave of demonstrations against racial injustice and the police’s use of force.

Washington D.C. has been under pressure to ban the popular Chinese-owned social media app TikTok.

TikTok users could soon find that the popular social media service is either under new ownership or could be outright banned in the U.S.
