First service for Uvalde massacre victims

Published

on

As U.S. President Joe Biden arrived back in Washington after paying his respects in Uvalde, the first memorial service has been held for the 21 victims

Residents of the small south Texas town urged the President to take action on gun safety laws.

As he returned to the nation’s capital, Biden described the “palpable” pain in Uvalde, a deep pain that is unnecessary.

When asked whether or not he feels more motivated to enact gun reform, the President says he’s been ‘pretty motivated all along’.

For years, Republicans have led the resistance against meaningful federal legislation on gun control.

Although Biden is yet to negotiate with opposing lawmakers in the current round of talks, he believes ‘everybody’ at Capitol Hill is becoming more rational about the hot topic.

It follows U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris calling for a U.S. assault rifle ban, while attending the final funeral for victims killed in a mass shooting in Buffalo, New York, just over two weeks ago.
