The Chinese region Chongqing is enforcing mass Covid testing requirements despite a record-breaking heatwave and ongoing power outages

Millions of residents have been left stranded in the sweltering sun. Footage of the huge lines has been shared across social media.

The mass testing comes in response to a growing Covid outbreak, as officials try to contain the spread of the virus.

Authorities ordered 10 million people living in the CBD areas to undergo the mandatory swabs.

Chongqing recorded 40 cases on Wednesday, bringing the total number to approximately 146, since August.

The mass testing in extreme heat is just the latest hardship for the region’s residents, who have also battled through a severe drought and wildfires in recent months.
