RT America to cease production

RT America is closing its doors and letting staff go, according to reports

RT America is a part of the global RT network that’s funded by the Russian Government.

This comes as television providers are severing ties with the news channel after Russia’s unprovoked war on Ukraine.

The general manager of T&R Productions, Misha Solodovnikov, says “It will be ceasing production as a result of unforeseen business interruption events.”

“Unfortunately, we anticipate this layoff will be permanent, meaning that this will result in the permanent separation from employment of most T&R employees at all locations,”

Solodovnikov wrote.

The network has been largely used by President Putin to push his narrative throughout the U.S.

The network was dropped at the start of the week by DirecTV, dealing a major financial blow to it.

This comes as the UK culture Secretary pleads for TikTok, Twitter, and Meta to block the online output of Russian-backed news platforms.

The RT American network has been largely used by President Putin to push his narrative throughout the US.

Bruce Wolpe from the US Studies Centre says this is a significant step to stopping Putin’s propaganda and changing the dialogue.

Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra won the Eurovision contest in May, capturing the hearts of the world

After taking out the win, that would mean Ukraine would host the competition next year.

But the European Broadcasting Union announced last week it could not be held in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion.

The body behind Eurovision now says it “understands the disappointment” over its decision not to hold next year’s song contest in Ukraine.

The EBU said it was in talks with the BBC to host the contest in the UK.

That’s because British entrant Sam Ryder came second in this year’s contest with his single Spaceman.

The announcement was met with disappointment by Ukrainians but the E-B-U doubled down on its position, saying in a statement that it “fully understands the disappointment that greeted the announcement”.
