Pfizer requests approval for third booster dose of covid-19

Published

Pfizer has made an emergency request to US officials, seeking authorisation to administer a third booster dose of the company’s Covid-19 vaccine

The company has provided new data from early human studies which shows that a third dose of the vaccine is safe and will raise neutralising antibody levels by 5 to 10 fold.

Pfizer is waiting for further information to come to hand, before asking the FDA for express approval to administering a booster shot six to eight months after the first two doses.

The company’s decision to go public with this information stems from the promising signs in early data and increased public concern about mutations of the virus.

Australia’s Pfizer vaccine supply to be ramped up

4.5 million doses had been anticipated to arrive to Australia in September/October, but now its expected to be available in August.

300,000-350,000 doses of Pfizer are available each week down under, but that number is expected to skyrocket to 1 million doses a week by the end of this month.

Defence minister Peter Dutton said it is important Australians don’t want for Pfizer.

“If your doctor advises you that it is safe to have AstraZeneca, please take it,” he told Channel Nine.

Over 4 million people have now died of Covid-19 since the pandemic began.
