Six million in another Beijing lockdown

Published

on

Global stock markets are on edge as Beijing goes back into lockdown as covid cases continue to rise across China… again.

In a number of districts across the capital, all non-essential shops are shut, restaurants and cafes are open for takeaway only and people are being asked to work from home.

COVID cases here have tripled in a week, they are at the highest level ever recorded.

While many have greeted the latest rules with weary acceptance there is clearly a price being paid by people for nearly three years of restrictions.

6 million locked down

China has now ordered 6 million people into lockdown after workers took to the street around the vast iPhone factory.

Beijing is further attempting to crush dissent after images of the protests went viral.

In a rare display of public anger, workers – furious over Covid isolation policies and working conditions – violently clashed with hazmat-clad personnel wielding batons.

In footage overnight from the city, the officials could be seen holding riot shields while being bombarded with heavy objects thrown by workers.

The Foxconn protests have been among the highest-profile bouts of unrest.
