Mar-a-Lago raid: Supreme Court rejects Trump request for intervention

The Supreme Court has rejected Trump’s request for a Mar-a-Lago intervention

MAR-A-LAGO RAID- Former President Donald Trump’s request to intervene with the seized Mar-a-Lago documents has been rejected by the Supreme Court.

Trump’s team had previously asked the justices to reverse a federal appeals court and allow a special master to review around 100 classified documents.

So what does this mean?

This could have led to the former president having access to all of the records and subsequently argue they should be off limits and ‘out of reach’ from criminal prosecutors.

But the Supreme Court rejected the request.

As per the ruling’s brief order, the documents will, for now, stay out of the reach of the special master.

In its argument, the Justice Department says “courts should be cautious before ‘insisting upon an examination’ of records whose disclosure would jeopardise national security.”

It follows U.S. District Judge issued two orders – one authorising the special master to review the seized materials while also temporarily prohibiting the Justice Department from using the documents as a part of its criminal probe.

This comes at a critical time for the nation’s highest legal body which has faced intense scrutiny recently.

Approval ratings for the 6-3 conservative court have fallen to an all-time low, largely following the reversal of Roe v. Wade.

A number of high profile liberals, including President Joe Biden, have attacked the legitimacy of the institution.
