Liz Truss meets King Charles, pays tribute to Queen

Published

British Prime Minister Liz Truss has headed to Buckingham Palace for her first meeting with King Charles.

King Charles has returned to London from Balmoral in Scotland.

The new King stopped the car outside Buckingham Palace, and met with well wishers who had come to the front gates to pay respect to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The King, supported by his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, shook hands and even received a kiss on the cheek from one well-wisher.

Parliament speeches

In parliament, the current and former Prime Ministers paid tribute to the Queen.

Prime Minister Liz Truss

“Queen Elizabeth II was the rock on which modern Britain was built. Our country has grown and flourished under her reign. Britain is the great country it is today because of her.”

“Through thick and thin, Queen Elizabeth II provided us with the stability and the strength that we needed. She was the very spirit of Great Britain – and that spirit will endure. She has been our longest-ever reigning monarch.”

“It is an extraordinary achievement to have presided with such dignity and grace for 70 years. Her life of service stretched beyond most of our living memories. In return, she was loved and admired by the people in the United Kingdom and all around the world.”

Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson

“This is our country’s saddest day because she had a unique and simple power to make us happy. That is why we loved her. That is why we grieve for Elizabeth the Great, the longest serving and in many ways the finest monarch in our history.

It was one of her best achievements that she not only modernised the constitutional monarchy, but produced an heir to her throne who will amply do justice to her legacy, and whose own sense of duty is in the best traditions of his mother and his country.

Though our voices may still be choked with sadness we can say with confidence the words not heard in this country for more than seven decades. God Save The King.”

Airbus faces manufacturing issues with A320 fuselage panels, impacting shares but confirming safety for in-service aircraft.

Airbus is confronting a fresh manufacturing issue after discovering a quality defect in several dozen fuselage panels used on A320-family jets. The revelation sparked investor concern, with shares falling by up to 10% as the news broke.

While the newly identified flaw has caused some delivery delays, Airbus confirms that aircraft already in service are safe and unaffected. The defect is limited to a specific batch of panels, and all new production now meets required standards.

The company has apologised for the disruption and says it is working closely with suppliers to prevent a repeat of the issue.

Bitcoin drops over 7% to $84,555, its lowest in a week, amid waning investor confidence and bearish market pressures.

Bitcoin has suffered a sharp decline, falling more than 7% and slipping to $84,555 — its lowest point in over a week. After a brutal November where BTC shed more than $18,000, its biggest dollar drop since mid-2021, investor confidence is wavering. Analysts say multiple pressures, including negative ratings for major stablecoins, are amplifying bearish sentiment across the market.
