Shock in Kabul: New images of former al Qaeda leader’s home released

New images have been released of the home of former al Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri

Following the death of Ayman al-Zawahiri, locals have released images of the property where the former al Qaeda leader was killed.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the U.S. military successfully carried out an attack on the safe house using a Hellfire missile.

Al-Zawahiri was on the balcony when the strike took place, and the sheer level of destruction the missile caused is evident.

The house is located in the Sherpur neighbourhood of the Afghan capital, and is surrounded by several other properties.

These properties are known to house a whole host of shady characters, including drug lords and criminals on the run.

The Sherpur area of Kabul was once a military base, but has been left to dilapidate over the years of civil conflict.

Meanwhile, just 1,000 feet to the southeast of the property is the United Kingdom’s embassy in Kabul.

British authorities have since confirmed all diplomatic and consular staff are “temporarily withdrawn” from the country.
