Brazilian police say the two British men who were killed in the Amazon Rainforest were shot with hunting ammunition

Authorities have now confirmed the remains found belong to journalist Dom Phillips and indigenous expert Bruno Pereira.

The two men went missing in Brazil’s Amazonas on June 5, with the bodies found 10 days later after a suspect confessed to burying the individuals.

Three men are now in custody as investigations continue.

57-year-old Phillips had been living in Brazil for more than a decade and was a contributor to the Guardian.

Pereira was 41 when he died, with the expert on isolated tribes within the Amazon on leave from his post with the United Kingdom government’s indigenous affairs agency.

The region where the pair went missing is well known for illegal fishing, mining, logging, and drug trafficking.

It is often a witness to violent conflicts between various criminal groups, government agents, and indigenous people.
