NY Judge drops Donald Trump’s contempt charge

Published

A New York Judge has lifted the civil contempt finding previously issued against Donald Trump, but is ordering the former President to pay $110,000 in fines

The judge has set several other conditions that must be set by May 20 or the contempt finding will be reinstated.

Trump’s team must now provide sworn statements describing the organisation’s document destruction policy.

The team must also complete a review of five boxes tied to Trump that are located in an off-site storage facility.

The judge officially pressed paused on the contempt fine on Friday, which was accruing at a rate of $10,000 a day, but warns the fine “MUST be paid”.

The New York attorney general’s office moved to hold Trump in contempt after he failed to comply for a subpoena to provide documents that was issued back in 2019.

It all relates to financial statements the Trump Organisation has provided to lenders, insurers and used for tax benefits, and whether these were accurate.
