Deadline looming – U.S has biggest day of evacuations out of Afghanistan

Published

on

The US has reported its biggest day of airlift evacuations to date, successfully withdrawing around 16-thousand people over the past 24 hours

In total, special forces have evacuated 37,000 individuals over the course of 28 military flights and 61 coalition aircraft flights.

The Deputy Director of the Joint Regional Operations says “the mission remains focused on ensuring a steady flow of evacuees out of Kabul”.

But the situation at the airport remains dicey., with the Taliban saying that all US forces must be out of Afghanistan by the August 31 deadline.

This follows the Biden administration confirming that the Taliban have been violently harassing many Afghan and American citizens who are attempting to access the airport.

There have also been a number of reports that suggest numerous people have been killed as chaos engulfs the nation.

Meanwhile, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan still believes that the US has the capacity to get any American who wants to leave Afghanistan back home in time.
