24 passengers injured during flight between Sydney and Auckland

Auckland International Airport witnessed a significant emergency response as a result of an incident aboard a LATAM Airlines flight originating from Sydney.

The flight, identified as Latam Airlines flight LA800, encountered a technical problem en route to Auckland, resulting in injuries to 24 passengers.

According to reports, more than 10 Hato Hone St John vehicles rushed to the scene following notification of the incident at 3:58 pm local time.

Emergency crews swiftly assessed and treated the affected passengers, with eight individuals classified as being in moderate condition and 16 in minor condition.

Two patients were subsequently transported to Middlemore Hospital for further medical attention.

The nature of the technical fault that caused the disturbance aboard the aircraft remains under investigation.

However, it has been described as causing a “strong movement” during the flight.

An airline spokesperson from LATAM expressed regret over the inconvenience and injuries sustained by passengers and reaffirmed the company’s unwavering commitment to safety.

Witnesses aboard the flight described unsettling moments, with one passenger recalling a sudden jolt during the flight, likening it to the sensation of the “whole plane just froze.”

Auckland Airport’s emergency service team promptly responded to the situation, providing assistance to St John following the request for medical support from the LATAM Airlines flight.

Additional ambulances were deployed to manage the aftermath of the incident.
