The country where women’s sport will hit $1 billion in revenue

Published

Women’s sport in the UK is predicted to generate GBP 1 billion in revenue annually by 2030, according to a study.

The surging popularity of women’s sport has seen increasing TV viewership and commercial opportunities, led by football.

The study – conducted by data agency Two Circles – revealed that two-thirds of UK sport fans currently follow women’s sport.

The increase on the £350m per year currently generated by women’s sport, through ticketing, broadcast rights and sponsorship deals, would make it one of the fastest growing sectors in the sports industry.

“Women’s sport has been on a strong growth trajectory. However, most sport played by elite female athletes still has a long way to go until it becomes commercially viable. To achieve long-lasting change, and for women’s sport to occupy a central role in our culture in the UK, the sports industry must widely recognise a social responsibility to building sport for all, and practically connect a vision for women’s sport to long-term commercial profit.”

The chief executive and co-founder of the Women’s Sport Trust, Tammy Parlour MBE, said

More than 80 per cent of respondents said that major events and TV broadcasts have been important factors behind following women’s sport.

Trump claims Iran’s military largely neutralized; tensions rise with attacks threatening air travel and oil shipping.

President Trump says Iran’s military capability has been largely neutralised, including its navy and air force, as the conflict in the Middle East intensifies. Iranian attacks have threatened commercial air travel and oil shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of wider economic fallout.

The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh has faced two attacks, while Gulf states worked to intercept further Iranian strikes. Officials report six U.S. troops killed and more than 700 deaths inside Iran as the exchange of fire escalates.

With global markets watching closely, the region remains on edge as military and diplomatic tensions show no signs of easing.
