Scalpers cut prices on Apple’s iPhone Duo in China amid mixed reviews and dwindling demand

After price cuts, interest in the device increased, according to the vendor Shen.
Similar discounts appeared on Idle Fish, with many listings showing prices 1,000 to 2,000 yuan lower than initial offerings.
Price reductions
Some base models are now priced only 300 yuan above retail. Initial demand was strong when pre-orders began on October 16, with the device selling out rapidly at Apple’s official retailers.
However, complaints about hinge fragility and app compatibility emerged over the weekend, causing momentum to stall.
Despite these issues, analyst Ivan Lam from Counterpoint Research noted that initial popularity matched expectations.

Lam warned that sales may decline as early adopters share experiences. The iPhone Duo’s high price tag has limited its market appeal and could jeopardise ongoing sales.
A report by IDC estimated Apple would ship 10 million iPhone Duos in the first year.
The report also indicated Apple would capture 31 per cent of the global foldable market this year.
Production bottlenecks are identified as a major challenge for Apple in maintaining supply.
Frustration might arise if supply issues lead to longer delivery times, according to IDC’s Francisco Jeronimo.
