Ruling reversed – prisoners free

The US Department of Justice has reversed a ruling made by former US president Donald Trump, allowing some prisoners who were released to home confinement during the peak of covid-19 to be set free permanently

The Attorney General says “Thousands of people on home confinement have reconnected with their families, have found gainful employment, and have followed the rules”.

The rehabilitative progress and compliance with the conditions of home confinement will be examined to determine who “should be given an opportunity to continue transitioning back to society”.

The new change overrides the previous legislation that pushed for prisoners to be returned to prison once the pandemic concluded.
