U.S. legislation unveiled banning foreign tech platforms

The RESTRICT Act has been brought forward by Senators Mark Warner and John Thune

Two U.S. Senators have introduced legislation that would allow the banning or prohibition of foreign tech platforms such as TikTok.

Mark Warner and John Thune’s bill, called the RESTRICT Act, gives the Department of Commerce more power to review, prevent and mitigate information communications and technology transactions that pose “undue” risk.

Thune says the bill is aimed at protecting Americans.

“Both the Trump and the Biden administrations recognise the need for a robust process in place to evaluate the threats that are posed by foreign technology,” Thune said.
