One of the last icons of the Golden Age of Hollywood has passed away.

Italian screen legend Gina Lollobrigida has died at the age of 95.

Her grandnephew tweeted news of her death, calling her “one of the brightest stars of Italian culture.”

The soprano shot to fame in the 50s and 60s and became one of the most recognisable cinema icons of the post-war period.

Lollobrigida symbolised the earthy sexuality of Italian actresses.

Not only remembered for her time on the silver screen, Lollobrigida stepped away from movies and also become a famous sculptor and photographer.

She even ran for the Italian Senate at the age of 95.
